Getting Caught Up
It happens so fast. One minute you’re buying your school stationary for the new year, the next minute it’s time to stock up on winter clothes and before you know it, you have to start doing Christmas shopping! The year certainly has gone by in a flash. There were some moments when time draaaaaagged on. Then there were other times when you didn’t seem to have enough hours in the day to do everything you need to! Scientifically though, time travel’s at the same speed all the time, so why does it feel like the house party is over just as it gets started, but the last lesson at school takes forever until the final bell rings.
Well it can be explained through a simple old saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” This is because when you’re having a good time you’re not constantly checking your watch to see when it’ll be over. If you’re on an awkward date though, 2 hours will probably feel like an eternity because every time you check your watch (and you’ll do it often) it has hardly moved! Time also goes by much faster if you keep busy, so if a day is dragging by, find something to occupy your mind and your hands, like spring cleaning your cupboards or practising different make up techniques on yourself.
I’ve been so occupied with myself lately I haven’t made any time to journal or blog, and I can feel the difference it makes in my life. Always make time to enjoy the little things, to just take a moment and think, “Yeah, today was an awesome day. I got a lot done and I should be proud of myself.” Give yourself credit where it’s due. If something upset you, do the same, acknowledge it and consider how you feel about it and what you’re going to do about it. Don’t just ignore issues until they creep up again and bite you on the bum. Don’t get so caught up in life that you forget that you’re actually supposed to be living.
We become so busy sometimes – with school, work, social lives – that we forget about the other areas of our life. Instead of just wishing time by, enjoy the moment and make the most of it by listening to a playlist of your favourite songs while dancing your head off. Go to the beach for a tan and a swim. If you don’t live by the ocean tan next to your pool, and if you don’t have a pool just put on your holiday bikini anyway and lie in the garden. Try some DIY beauty treatments and have a salon day with friends. Throw a good old fashioned “garage party” – open up your garage doors, put on a kiff playlist, get everyone to bring their own (non-alcoholic) drinks and some snacks and just dance the night away.
Don’t get caught up in the net you weave for yourself called “life”, break out and go for a swim ![]()
