Surfing your way through studying
Cody Maverick said in the 2007 film, ”Surf’s up”, ”Okay, well… So as soon as there was the first wave, right? – there was the first surfer. All they needed was, like, um, a piece of driftwood, a block of ice or something like that, and then they were off. And they were hooked, man. They were hooked.” Hooked to surfing definitely a possibility, hooked to studying definitely not. However, studying like surfing, is ultimately one of the most emotionally, mentally and physically challenging task of all time. They both require pushing yourself forward under all odds, leaning in for the big dip, facing stress and tension head on and gripping as hard as you can on to all the skills and techniques you were taught. So why not think of studying as a cool surf off minus the awesome waves and the beyond gorgeous scenery.
Ready, set, surf! Top surfers are confident and have mentally psyched themselves up to beat the waves, being well prepared-mentally and physically for an exam can increase your confidence levels and with high confidence, it’s always easier to tackle the problems in front of you.
Deep breaths! Remember exams isn’t about finishing your paper faster than anyone else or cramming all your studying into one night. Exam preparation like surfing practice requires time, effort and months and months of preparation. Surfers are graded according to how well they catch a wave, just like students are graded on the quality of their answers and not on how fast they completed the test.
Soak in the atmosphere! The best surfers are the ones that surf whole heartedly, enjoy the atmosphere around them and are aware of their surroundings. In the same way gear yourself up for exams, get into the exam mood, remember you not facing the monstrous exam wave alone because all your friends and million other students are studying too.
Gradually glide through exams and catch big waves straight on. Hard work pays off in the end. So work towards doing the best that you can and set an attainable goal for yourself. Remember high marks like a big wave is easier to get to than it may seem.
All the best for exams!!!!
