We forget it seems
We forget, it seems
That all does not last.
The unforgiving memories
Of a tarnished pastDwell within us,
Holding us back.
Enthusiasm and commitment we somehow lack
We forget, it seems
That God is great
And that without a purpose
He does not create
For when we look ahead
We expect a thorn-less path
One without obstacles
Or the ache that comes with heart
We forget, it seems
That perfection is in vain
And that this wordly life
holds no significant gain
And yet, we pursue
In futile attempt
Despite the emptiness within,
A soul – unkempt.
We forget, it seems
That there is so much more
Than the ongoing sufferings Of a blood filled war
The desire within
To cherish and nurture
Is lost with the pursuit
Of achievement and pleasure.
We forget, it seems
That the freedom of thought
Is one of which
cannot simply be bought.
We’re stuck in this thought
This undivided notion
That being different
Requires untold devotion
We forget, it seems
That our thumb prints tell
Of individuality, of originality
Of a soul we cannot sell
We fight for freedom
For the stolen right
To be, to say, to do relentless and forthright
We forget, it seems
That although tough
This struggle, is ensuring
A diamond from the rough.
Without which,
There wouldn’t be
Any change, or makings
Of a better me.
