1. You always have to choose between a guy and a career
Have you noticed that in so many romcoms the girl has to choose between the man of her dreams and a career that usually has to take place across the world? Why can’t she have both? Or why can’t the guy decide to immigrate with her?

2. There’s always a mad race to the airport
This scene happens a heck of a lot in romcoms: the guy (or girl) always ends up having to run to the airport to declare undying love for the person who’s about to leave. What, doesn’t anyone own a cell phone anymore?

3. If you hate him, you will end up loving him
Sometimes it happens that a chick in a movie hates a guy, but then by the last scene she realises how cool he is. Yes, even though he slept with her friend, acted like a creep and totally disrespected her. Huh.

4. He’s gonna do something crazy to show his love
He might serenade you, dance or face his fears. Whatever he does, he’s gonna make sure that lots of people are watching and it’ll be something you never forget. Even if he looks like a total moron doing it, you’ll get happy about it.

5. That poor guy you’re dating is gonna get dumped really quickly
You’ll never end up with the guy you’re dating now. No, some other cool dude is gonna come around and mess things up. Movies = no time to be single and stoked!

6. That last minute is crucial
People will only turn the car, boat or taxi around just minutes before the movie ends. It’s like this storm of realisation comes pouring down from the skies and they realise that they have to go grab love by the horns!

7. His crazy-ass friends are fun
No matter how annoying his friends are, it doesn’t matter. Okay, in real life it does matter and you won’t want them getting in the way of your relationship.

8. Things end happily
By the end of the movie, there’s usually a kiss and sunset (and sometimes a million dollars). But in real life, you’ve got to live each day one at a time and make happy moments.

9. You’ll see the person you like all the time!
It’s really a small world in the romcoms. A guy you saw once at a party will appear in your life all the time! He’ll be the guy you end up working with, your best friend’s friend, or just a guy who happens to run into you again. No cell numbers required to keep in touch!

10. The crazies are cute
In the movies, the girl who is strange and acts like a total drama queen ends up being considered adorable. Likewise, the guy who’s a jerk ends up being the knight in shining armour. In real life, not so much.

11. You’ve only got one soul mate 
No matter what happens, you’re bound to end up with that one guy. In real life, this isn’t always true. People can have many different soul mates instead of just one destiny.

12. Your love can change him
Even if he is a terrible, rude, bad dressing guy, your love will be able to change him. In real life, it really won’t. And no guy who puts you off so badly is worth your attention anyway.

13. All you need is a hot dress
Put on a gorgeous dress and he’ll not be able to believe his eyes. Now he’ll definitely ask you out. In real life, who you are counts more than a silly dress, but we prefer it that way!
