Behind the decks with DJ Dean Fuel

DJ Dean Fuel knows just how to get the crowd pumped and ready for a big night of hard partying on dance floors all around South Africa. His unique sounds have secured his spot as one of South Africas most loved DJ’s. With 10 years experience under his belt – it’s no surprise that the guy knows just what the crowds want and gives them all of that and more.
The Cape Town based DJ graced Durban with his presence to perform for the masses at the Durban July Afterparty. I got to meet up with him for an interview, he handled it with honesty and answers that revealed just how deep his passion for the industry lies, all while flashing a big smile.
Here’s what he had to say:
Who is Dean Fuel? The guy behind the name?
Obviously a DJ with a massive love for music. I grew up with music. My dad was a musician, I was part of a highschool band and from there my love just grew and now music is my happy place.
How long have you been a DJ?
For 10 years and there’s no intention of slowing down.
Favorite thing about the South African music industry?
Definitely the fans, they’re always up for it and support us passionately
Anything bizarre happen to you while you’ve been on the decks?
I was doing a gig in Cape Town at a club called The Fez – the club is well known for wild street parties, the whole night was themed with jugglers and performers so when a girl got onto the stage and started dancing, I assumed she was one of the performers. She started stripping, only then did I know she wasn’t one of the hired performers but rather part of the crowd. I felt quite awkward but the crowd kept partying so I kept the tunes pumping.
Besides being a DJ, what do you do?
I also produce and help up and coming DJ’s wherever I can. It takes a lot of time and hardwork so I have to find time to get into the studio and actually produce. Besides that I also run an events business.
Big thanks to Dean Fuel who rocked the Durban shores hard and fast.
